OXFORD PROJECT
Stay or go... That is the question these homeowners struggled to answer. When they finally did decide to stay put in this house, they knew they needed to start making some changes. Starting with the family bathroom seemed like the best choice. It was cramped, dated and completely lacking character. They have always enjoyed urban living, and although now they live in the burbs, they still wanted to bring touches of city life into their home. He is quite tall so one of his requests was to make it at least seem bigger. She wanted it to feel bright and open. Working within the same footprint, we brought an openness by installing a floating vanity which allows you to see all of the gorgeous custom penny tile mosaic floor. We also created an open closet which replaced a closet with a door. Utilizing a soft light color on the walls, installing beautiful floor-to-ceiling brick tile behind the vanity, and a herringbone tile in the shower all contributed to bring charm and character to the space. Since their young boys would also be using this bathroom, we added touches of whimsy in the decor. The end result- a bathroom that looks like it belongs in a New York City apartment, but that perfectly suits this sweet Grosse Pointe Woods family.
