Rochester Build Project
Location of Project: Rochester Hills, Michigan
Type of Project: Tear-down & Rebuild, Whole Home Design

Reimagining a home from the ground up
This Rochester, Michigan home began as a 1980s tri-level, but for a family of eight, the layout no longer supported the way they lived.
What they needed wasn’t a refresh. It was a complete rethink.
Design Studio Detroit took the home down to the lower level and rebuilt it with a new vision, handling every layer of design from cabinetry and flooring to the interiors that bring the home together as a whole.
Because when a home feels disconnected, everything inside it does too.

Solving for space, flow, and the in-between moments
Designing for a large family isn’t just about adding square footage. It’s about making every space work harder and more intentionally.
This project began with the bigger picture, not individual rooms, but how the entire home would function as one connected experience. How people move through it, where they naturally gather, and where design can create ease, privacy, and breathing room.
From the kitchen, pantry, and dining areas to five bathrooms, a custom master closet, mudroom, and expansive outdoor living spaces, each area was mapped with purpose.
Design Studio Detroit approached the home holistically, guiding decisions across cabinetry, flooring, layouts, materials, and flow. Nothing was treated in isolation, allowing every detail to work in relation to the next.
The result is a home with natural flow, durable materials that support everyday life, and a sense of cohesion that carries throughout every space.

A Cohesive home built to live in
Each space now flows with intention, giving this family room to gather, spread out, and move through their day with ease. It feels cohesive without being overdesigned, and elevated without sacrificing comfort.
More importantly, the home works - supporting the energy of a full household while still offering moments of calm, privacy, and retreat.
