Moody Book Room
Location of Project: Shelby Township, Michigan
Type of Project: One-Room Transformation

A forgotten room becomes a heartfelt retreat
Sometimes the most meaningful spaces are the ones designed for the people we love. For this project, that person was Emily's sister. What had once been a cluttered, overlooked storage room was transformed by the Design Studio Detroit team into a moody, enchanting book room.
The room had potential, but it felt dark, disorganized, and disconnected from Emily's sister's personality. The challenge - and the joy - was in turning this forgotten corner into a space that felt intimate, warm, and unmistakably personal.

Breathing life into a hidden sanctuary
From the moment we stepped into this room, our goal was to create a room for quiet moments, reflection, and connection. The walls were painted a deep, verdant green, wrapping the room in a rich, moody hug, while the dark ceiling, dotted with stars and constellations, added a touch of magic overhead.
The antique fireplace quickly became the heart of the room. Its soft glow, paired with floating candles, gives the space a whimsical, storybook feel straight out of a Harry Potter scene. Custom shelving along the walls showcases her collection of books, antiques, and thrifted treasures, turning everyday objects into little moments of magic and discovery.
Every piece of furniture and decor was chosen with intention, blending Emily's sister's love for unique second-hand finds with comfort and functionality. A gallery wall, filled with framed curiosities and thrifted gems, further adds personality and charm, completing a cozy, layered space that's completely her own.

A room full of heart and story
The transformation went far beyond aesthetics - it was deeply personal. Today, this book room is a sanctuary where Emily's sister can unwind, immerse herself in her favorite books, and enjoy her treasured antiques in a space that feels cozy, magical, and completely hers. For Emily and the team, bringing this room to life was a labor of love, a reminder of why they do what they do: creating spaces that celebrate real people, stories, and connections.
